Description:Visitor-related community organization seeks highly motivated, organized professional to increase visibility and recognition of Durham and its assets. Assists the Director of Communications in building media relations by fulfilling media requests as directed, drafting and distributing targeted press releases, and distributing monthly calendar of events. Responsible for managing the daily clippings process and routing to staff, maintaining the media section of the www.durham-nc.com web site, and maintaining the Media database. Responsible for coordinating efforts to correct and resolve inaccurate media and directory references that refer to Durham without proper attribution. Coordinates and enters monthly performance indicator data. The environment is high energy, very fast-paced, and technologically advanced. NO PHONE CALLS OR EMAIL SUBMISSIONS PLEASE!
Duties:• Gather background information and assist in drafting/issuing targeted news releases, media advisories, news tips, and other tools for distribution to news media to publicize Durham, its identity and its assets. • Assemble and distribute monthly calendar of events to targeted publications • Manage the news clippings process daily & route to appropriate stakeholders • Utilize RSS Feeds and other online resources to monitor news about Durham in the national press • Gather, track, and disseminate up-to-date information on new visitor and lodging developments happening in Durham • Fulfill reactive media assists and requests for media kits • Update and maintain the rankings/accolades, feedback, and WTAS databases • Maintain logs of PR activities in database • Coordinate and enter monthly performance indicator data • Monitor and issue corrections to resolve inaccurate media and directory references that refer to Durham without proper attribution • Maintain and update local media resources in the media database • Oversee and continually freshen the media section of www.durham-nc.com • Create and use backgrounders and evergreens as story ideas that are timely and accessible to the media
Qualifications:DURHAM RESIDENCY REQUIRED. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint & Internet. Communications, media and public relations experience. Project management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, hi-tech, email-oriented environment. Must be able to juggle several projects simultaneously, process decisions via email, and quickly adapt to changing/unexpected developments.
